I think different acts have 'influence' for a while range of reasons from imitators to style and trend setting, marketing, gloabl domination, recording techniques, performances, management and promotional activities and stunts, to just memorable songs and sounds. Here is my list of possibles and it barely scratches the surface.
50s - Elvis, Chuck Berry, 60s - Beatles, Beach Boys, Stones, Byrds, Dylan, The Doors ,
70s - The Eagles, Kiss, ABBA, Pistols, Bee Gees, Queen, 80s - U2, The Smiths, Pet Shop Boys, Madonna, 90s - Nirvana, 00s - Hard to find a 'band' as such but as an organisation ' the 'Idol" franchise has a lot to answer for - and none of it good!
